It is important to clean pool filter’s cartridge when the pressure is 8-10 PSI. Spas and hot tubs manufacturers have established a new cleaning routine as pollution level of cartridges gets indicated once the dirt level starts to rise. It then becomes essential to remove the cartridge from the socket of the filter for housing. Removal of the filtering medium of cartridge filters is generally done by following the manufacturer’s instructions. Manufacturers like Intex and Pentair have a leaflet of ‘instructions for use’ enclosed with the package.
The next step is cleaning the removed contaminated cartridge. It is important to use a garden hose having a straight flow nozzle to wash the cartridge that is in use. Allow water jets to penetrate pleats of the polyester material that make up the filter folds. On spraying water for a considerable period of time, dirt that sticks on the cartridge filament’s surface gets removed. While spraying water it is good to hold the hose at an angle of 45 degree for best results.
After completion of spraying, some dirt particle is sometime still found sticking on the polyester filament. To remove such impurities, muriatic acid solution is required wherein the cartridge filament should be kept immersed. Henceforth, the filament requires drying that is normally done in bright sunlight. Having done so, the cartridge element can be refitted for reuse.
Observing this maintenance process as explained above, increases the life of cartridge filters, makes them more durable and boosts their safety level. It is always good to use branded filters in pools and avoid installing of locally made products.
