It is not always necessary to use muriatic acids and chlorine to clear the dirt accumulated on the cartridge surface. Only if the impurities are too hard to be removed then acid use is required. Using replacement filter cartridges is a very wise means of keeping pools safe. The reason is the pores of the new filtering medium always remain capable of trapping dirt particles that are microscopic in size. In old cartridges, some leakages may occur due to depletion of the medium. So, using new filtering medium helps to keep the water balance intact. The pH, alkalinity and chlorine levels then stay normal when tested.
